Sarah McAlpine, DO, attended the University of New Mexico, followed by medical school in Florida. She completed a three year residency program in a rural Pennsylvania community before coming to work in Alamosa. Here, she enjoys practicing rural medicine and living in the mountains.
Dr. McAlpine says her decision to go into medicine was greatly influenced by her mother who is an ER nurse and her father has been a respiratory therapist and an air ambulance pilot. She says, "I enjoy pediatrics all the way to the opposite end of the spectrum in caring for the elderly. Family practice gives you all of that and it's a good way to connect with people."
