Secondary Services:

Originally from California, Dr. Garrard arrived in Alamosa in early 2011 as a locum – a temporary medical position – for the Women’s Health Clinic. Later that summer, she accepted the offer join the organization permanently.

Prior to coming to the Valley, Dr. Garrard had worked for five years at a practice in St. Louis, Missouri, followed by another ten years in rural health on Colorado’s Western Slope. Ready for a change, she interviewed at San Luis Valley Health.

While she enjoys all aspects of obstetrics and gynecology, she has several specialized interests, including high risk OB, pelvic reconstruction for pelvic support disorders, and the treatment of cervical and vulvar disease. Additionally, Dr. Garrard likes adolescent pediatric gynecology where she can work with young girls from the age of two to 18 years concerning gynecological problems such as, for the older girls, primary amenorrhea (the absence of menstrual bleeding).

Dr. Garrard has been active with the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) of Colorado and specifically District 8. She is involved with the Colorado Hospital Association's collaboration with the March of Dimes to help reduce the incidences of preterm births and low-birthweight deliveries in Colorado. She has been actively engaged with the Colorado Perinatal Care Quality Collaborative.

Though she uses medical terms to describe her interests, during office visits Dr. Garrard likes to speak in simpler terms that her patients can understand. It was in the asking of questions, after all, that Dr. Garrard discovered she wanted to be a doctor.

When not practicing medicine, she enjoys hand sewing, reading, gardening, cooking and traveling the U.S.
