San Luis Valley Health complies with the "No Surprises Act," at Section 112 of the federal law. Consumers can expect to have new billing protections when getting emergency care, non-emergency care from out-of-network providers at in-network facilities, and air ambulance services from out-of-network providers. These rules protect consumers from excessive out-of-pocket costs. Emergency services must continue to be covered without any prior authorization, regardless of whether or not a provider or facility is in-network.
The listed charge of a hospital service is not equivalent to the actual amount paid by governmental or commercial insurance companies; accordingly, each patient’s financial responsibility may vary. The amount a patient pays is based on many factors, including services provided, health insurance, benefit plans and other applicable discounts. When patients need emergency care, hospitals charge a facility fee to pay for patient's care. Emergency Room facility fees are based on how much care the patient needs.
