Barton E. Giessel, MD

Barton E. Giessel, M.D., grew up in a small town in south Texas and feels at home in the San Luis Valley. He graduated with his Bachelor’s from the University of Texas at Austin and received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. He completed his family medicine residency at the University of Missouri Hospitals and Clinics in Columbia with a focus on academic medicine and rural healthcare practices.

Before joining SLV Health, he provided full spectrum adult ambulatory medical care as a staff physician with the Medical Associates of Navarro County in Corsicana, Texas. “If I would have to choose a focus, it would be that I am most interested in managing complex chronic diseases and enjoy a personal relationship with my patients,” added Giessel.

When he is not at work, Dr. Giessel unwinds by hiking, playing guitar, cooking or watching foreign cinema.
