Blake Reichert, DO grew up in Minneapolis and moved to Colorado for college. He earned his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry with a minor in Music from Colorado College in Colorado Springs, then went on to complete graduate studies in Biomedical Sciences at Colorado State University in Fort Collins. Dr. Reichert received his medical education from Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine before selecting the Southern Colorado Family Medicine Alamosa Rural Training Track for his residency.

“It was my first choice for residency because I really wanted to check out Southern Colorado and the San Luis Valley,” said Dr. Reichert. The area made a lasting impression on him, and he became the first San Luis Valley placement from the residency program, which includes three years of training: the first year in Pueblo, CO at St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center, followed by two years in the San Luis Valley with rotations at both San Luis Valley Health and Valley-Wide Health Systems.

Dr. Reichert pursued a career in medicine to share his knowledge and make a difference in others’ lives. He wanted to be able to teach others about how to improve their health and lives. He values patient collaboration in his approach to care, saying, “I’m more of a friendly advisor. I like to meet patients where they are. I try to point out things that people don’t see themselves.”

An outdoor enthusiast, Dr. Reichert finds the San Luis Valley the perfect place to live and work. Outside of the clinic, he enjoys mountain biking, hiking, skiing, and fishing across our abundant outdoor spaces. “I also really enjoy both the people within the organization (San Luis Valley Health) and the community. I’m excited to build long-lasting relationships here,” he said.

He’s quickly becoming part of the Alamosa community, often found playing tennis or outdoor volleyball with friends, or dining at one of his favorite local spots. While he couldn’t choose just one, his top five restaurants are My Brother’s Place, Thai House, Siam Cuisine, Nino’s, and Friar’s Fork.
