Mariah Maestas, DO

Dr. Mariah Maestas grew up just south of the San Luis Valley in Española, New Mexico. Her family spent many years visiting the area, especially her father’s ranch in Bountiful, where he has been ranching for more than 30 years. Growing up in Northern New Mexico and visiting the San Luis Valley, she developed a deep appreciation for rural communities and the people who call those communities home.

Dr. Maestas earned her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of New Mexico, before completing her Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine at Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine. From early on, she knew she wanted to practice medicine in a rural setting, where she could build meaningful, long-term relationships with patients. That commitment led her to the University of South Dakota’s Pierre Rural Family Medicine Residency program, where she trained to meet the unique needs of rural families.

After completing residency, she felt called back to the region that helped raise her. Wanting to be closer to home and to serve a community where she felt a genuine sense of belonging, she made the decision to join SLV Health. “I’m most excited about getting to know the community and being able to identify with them,” she shared. She is also excited to be practicing in Colorado, saying, “I miss my mountains!”.

Dr. Maestas is passionate about creating a comfortable, trusting environment for her patients. She believes in working side-by-side with them and taking the time to explain every step of their care. “They need to be okay with everything we’re doing. If they don’t understand something, it’s important that I take the time to explain it so that they do,” she said. Her goal is to build strong, collaborative relationships rooted in mutual respect.

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Maestas enjoys exploring the outdoors with her Australian Cattle Dog, who’s endless energy keeps her busy and active. She comes from a large and close-knit family with five siblings and 14 nieces and nephews, and she cherishes spending time with them whenever she can. She’s also an avid antiques hunter and can often be found browsing local antique shops in search of unique finds.

Dr. Maestas is accepting new patients at our Stuart Avenue location in Alamosa. To establish care, please call (719) 589-3000.
