Paul R. Miller, DO, is a board‑certified emergency medicine physician who has served Conejos County Hospital’s Emergency Department for many years, where he also holds the roles of Medical Director and Trauma Director. His long‑term commitment has helped shape the hospital’s emergency and trauma services and provides continuity of care for the Conejos County community.
Throughout his tenure at SLV Health, Dr. Miller has brought extensive clinical expertise, operational leadership, and steady decision‑making to rural emergency care. His approach reflects a deep understanding of the unique challenges and strengths of serving a small, close‑knit community.

Dr. Miller’s background includes service at the Mike O’Callaghan Federal Medical Center at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada, where he was stationed out of Las Vegas. During his military career, he deployed with Special Operations Forces as part of a highly mobile, six‑person ground surgical team, delivering critical care in austere, high‑demand environments. These experiences continue to inform his leadership and trauma readiness efforts at Conejos County Hospital.
In addition to his military service, Dr. Miller brings valuable rural emergency medicine experience, having worked as an attending emergency department physician at Mesa View Regional Hospital in Mesquite, Nevada. He completed his Emergency Medicine residency in Columbus, Ohio, gaining broad training across medical, surgical, and trauma emergencies.
A Colorado native, Dr. Miller grew up in Littleton and earned both his Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Colorado Boulder. He later received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Parker, Colorado.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Miller enjoys running, hiking, snowboarding, golfing, cooking, brewing, and following sports. He especially values spending time with his family and being part of the community he has long served.
Through years of dedication and leadership, Dr. Miller continues to play a key role in ensuring high‑quality, dependable emergency and trauma care for patients throughout Conejos County and the San Luis Valley.
