Introducing Sheila Hicks as Foundation President

Sheila Hicks will serve as President of the San Luis Valley Health Foundation.

Sheila Hicks, a board member of San Luis Valley Health’s Foundation, will assume her new role as Board President of the Foundation, effective immediately.  Hicks, who has served on the Foundation board over the past two and a half years, was nominated by her fellow board members.

“We are excited to have someone as capable as Sheila serve as President of the Board of the Foundation,” stated Gurule.  “Her strong community ties and vision for the future of the Foundation and its projects will serve us well.”

Hicks, a Certified Public Accountant at Wall, Smith, Bateman Inc., joined the Foundation board in 2012.  She is a breast cancer survivor and that was a major reason for wanting to get involved.

“That experience gave me a vested interest in growing the hospital so that people from the San Luis Valley can receive quality care, close to home,” said Hicks.

Hicks noted that the Foundation’s top priorities will stay the same.  The Foundations’ priorities are to collaborate with the hospital to provide the best health care possible with the help of community support.   A major project the Foundation has endorsed is the development of a Cancer Services on the San Luis Valley Health campus.  On July 18th the community came together at its annual Bolos and Boots event and funds raised from this event will go towards the Cancer Services project.  The Foundation will continue its fundraising efforts to help bring the Cancer Services to the Valley

“This was an honor to be appointed to this position,” said Hicks.  “I am looking forward to serving in this capacity and watching our work unfold into results that will benefit our community.”
