ALAMOSA – May 2, 2018 - The Laboratory at SLV Health Regional Medical Center Hosted Eight Inspectors from the College of American Pathologists (CAP)
The inspectors reviewed lab records, quality control, maintenance, validations, calibrations, competencies, blind specimen analysis, safety, policies, reports, results, interviewed and observed staff, evaluated the overall management of the laboratory system during this on-site unannounced inspection.
Out of more than 1,000 standards, the laboratory and pathology departments were commended for their safe, innovative and quality culture. The staff was recognized for their interactive relationships internally and inter-departmentally. The rating relates to a score of approximately 99% on the 100% grading scale.
The SLV Health RMC lab was recommended to retain their accreditation status by the lead Pathologist inspecting the laboratory. The CAP accreditation process is designed to ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients.
The U.S. federal government recognizes the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program as the Regulatory Agency inspection function of clinical laboratory science. This inspection and accreditation system began in the early 1960s, as being equal to or more stringent than the government’s own inspection program.
“We are very proud of our staff and their expertise in the laboratory sciences," remarked Mary Rice, Director of Laboratory Services. Mark Shuldberg, D.O. Laboratory Medical Director added, "They work continuously to meet and exceed the laboratory standards and to assure we provide the highest care for our patients."
