The San Luis Valley Health Foundation Unveils its 'Pillars of the Community' Installation
SLVH Foundation
On April 30, San Luis Valley Health Foundation Director, Kelly Gurule, proudly unveiled the Foundation’s Pillars of the Community installation in the Atrium of San Luis Valley Health. This meaningful project honors major donors to the San Luis Valley Foundation. These major donors are individuals and organizations that have played a vital role in expanding the quality health care services that San Luis Valley Health is able to provide to our community.
What Makes a Pillar
The plaque that adorns the first pillar in the San Luis Valley Health Atrium explains what it means to be a Pillar of the Community. It reads, “A Pillar of the Community is an individual or organization who embodies the true spirit of service, generosity, and leadership. Their unwavering commitment and compassion towards their community are evident through their significant contributions to the mission and vision of the San Luis Valley Health Foundation.”
To be honored as a Pillar, the donor must have generously contributed more than $100,000 cumulatively to the Foundation. This level of giving demonstrates not only a significant financial investment, but a deep dedication to the future of healthcare here in the San Luis Valley.
Art that Honors
The art installation itself features beautiful custom mild steel plaques designed by local artist Dave Clausen. Each one is thoughtfully designed to represent the donor that it was made for, from Gloria Wuckert’s left-handed golf swing to Reed’s beloved dog, each piece honors the legacy of the honoree. The plaques are aptly affixed to the pillars of the Atrium, demonstrating how these donors serve as a steadfast support for the work that is done at San Luis Valley Health.
During the unveiling, Gurule introduced the Foundation’s first five Pillars, with three more currently in production. Pillars honoring Don and Gloria Wuckert, Alamosa State Bank, The Reed Family Trust, the Larry Holder Family and Ski-Hi Stampede now proudly adorn the walls at San Luis Valley Health. Employees, patients and visitors alike can view these pieces in the Atrium, offering a warm and lasting reminder of the support that our organization receives from its generous community.
Gurule expressed her excitement to finally unveil the Pillars, saying, “The Pillars of the Community project, which has been in the works for over 20 years, has been one of the most exciting parts of my job. I am honored to recognize our major donors and to honor their dedication and their ongoing support of San Luis Valley Health.”
