The GFWC Woman’s Citizenship Club of Alamosa, part of one of the largest international women’s volunteer service organizations, continues its tradition of community service through a heartfelt project benefiting San Luis Valley Health.
Club members recently created handmade lap fidget blankets designed to provide comfort, sensory stimulation, and engagement for individuals living with dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, and other cognitive challenges. These special blankets feature a variety of textures, buttons, ribbons, zippers, and other interactive elements that help keep hands busy while promoting relaxation and reducing anxiety.
Club member Ms. Ginny Bond proudly presented the completed blankets to Ms. Kelly Gurule, Director of the San Luis Valley Health Foundation. The blankets represent countless hours of volunteer work and demonstrate the club’s ongoing commitment to improving the quality of life for individuals throughout the San Luis Valley.
“We are so grateful for this generous donation,” said Ms. Kelly Gurule. “These fidget blankets bring comfort, reduce anxiety, and help make our patients’ stay calmer and easier.”
The GFWC Woman’s Citizenship Club of Alamosa has a long history of service, supporting local organizations and initiatives through volunteerism, fundraising, and community outreach. Projects such as these lap fidget blankets exemplify the club’s dedication to making a positive difference in the lives of others.
