I asked a lot of questions and eventually invited myself to spend time with an orthopedic surgeon who graciously took me under his wing and further solidified my desire to work in sports medicine.”
She earned her undergraduate degree in athletic training from the University of Northern Colorado before graduating from the Child Health Associate Physician Assistant Program at the University of Colorado. She then practiced rural family medicine and volunteered and worked as an athletic trainer for 13 years in eastern Colorado. In 2006, she served three weeks as an athletic trainer for the at the Chula Vista Olympic Training Center in California, working with world class Olympians and Paralympians in multiple sports. In February 2017, Tish obtained a Certificate of Added Qualifications (CAQ) in Orthopaedic Surgery by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA.) The CAQ in Orthopaedic Surgery is a nationally recognized certification that reflects a PA’s specialized training and ongoing dedication to optimizing patient outcomes and supporting efficient, high-level orthopedic care.
Tish now enjoys working with high school and college athletes in the San Luis Valley and providing them with sports medicine services and easier and rapid access to the orthopedic clinic, as well as assisting the surgeons in the operating room which allows for her to be able to understand and explain the surgeries and enhance patient understanding . She says, "If I could have designed my dream job, this is it."
Tish and her husband enjoy the lifestyle the San Luis Valley offers including hiking, fishing, and riding side by sides. They are enjoying the empty nest time of life while still trying to keep up with the lives and activities of their five adult children.
