Diana Cantu Memorial 5K Raises More Than $10,000 for Local Cancer Care

The loving family and friends of Diana Cantu gathered on Saturday, July 25, to honor her memory with a heartfelt 5K Walk/Run. Diana passed away on September 3, 2022, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. The event brought together 110 participants and raised an incredible $10,520.

In keeping with the spirit of compassion and support that Diana inspired, half of the funds raised were donated to the Cancer Center at SLV Health, while the remaining half was designated for the family of Lorena Price, who sadly lost her battle with this devastating disease on July 21, 2026. In a remarkable act of generosity, Lorena's family chose to donate their portion of the proceeds back to Hospice and the Cancer Center, ensuring that these funds will continue to support patients and families facing cancer in our community.

The event was a beautiful tribute to two lives touched by cancer and a powerful example of the generosity found within the San Luis Valley. The family was honored to recognize the family of Lloyd Garcia, Sr., who was the recipient of funds raised through last year's race. In appreciation for the support, they received, the Garcia family made a generous donation to this year's event, demonstrating how the kindness of this community continues to come full circle.

The family of Diana would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the community for its unwavering support throughout their fight against this disease. They would also like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the many sponsors, businesses, and organizations throughout the San Luis Valley whose generosity made this event possible. Their kindness, prayers, participation, and financial support have meant more than words can express and continue to provide comfort, hope, and healing to local families facing cancer.
