National Public Health Week--Quitting Tobacco Use

Written by Lisyuri Gallardo

As we enter National Public Health Week, please remember that tobacco use is the leading preventable cause of disease and death in the U.S.

As described in the 2014 Surgeon General’s Report on Smoking and Health, smoking risks are more deadly now than 50 years ago. In the first half of the 20th century, cigarettes had no filters, no vent holes, and fewer added chemicals.  Due to these changes, smokers inhale more deeply, pulling 7000 dangerous chemicals further into their lungs, causing more than 20 million American deaths.

Remember, tobacco use remains the single largest cause of preventable disease and death in the United States. If you or your loved one need help to break free from the toxic effects of tobacco and secondhand smoke, call (719) 587-6334 for free services.
