Gaining Some “Insights”

Clinic leadership and the Human Resources team came together for a few hours in June to learn more about themselves, and the best way to communicate with each other.

At the end of December 2019, Angie Werner and Mandy Crockett obtained accreditation as practitioners for Insights Discovery.

Based on the work of Carl Jung and Jolande Jacobi, Insights uses psychometric models to develop awareness of self and others that can be used to make practical improvements in the workplace and in relationships. This work is similar to Myers-Briggs, but instead uses color energies that arise from the Rational Functions of Extroversion/Introversion, Thinking/Feeling, and Irrational Functions of Sensation and Intuition.

Before COVID hit, Angie and Mandy delivered their first Insights training to the Senior Team but then the program was put on hold. Until now! The two were able to convene members of the clinic leadership and human resources team this past Friday for a training session.

Ahead of the training, assigned team members completed an evaluation answering various questions. A formula within the questionnaire assessed each individual’s preferences based on how they answered the questions and a report was produced outlining the behaviors, approach, and use of color energies the team member tends to lead with in the conscious and unconscious persona, at their best, and yes, even at their not-so-best.

Each color energy is broken down into four primary areas of Fiery Red, Earth Green, Sunshine Yellow, and Cool Blue. Using the profiles as a springboard, knowledge and awareness helps teams and leaders tackle the challenges that are standing between them and peak performance, such as effective communication, management and work styles, and finding an environment that inspires them to do their best work. The work of Insights is all about understanding perception, building individual awareness, and providing a framework for people to understand and connect better with others, both personally and professionally.

As part of the training, the team members had an opportunity to learn more about the philosophy of Insights, become familiarized with their personalized profile, and share in some hands-on exercises and discussion with their teammates.

The training was a great success and wonderful way to end a busy workweek. Audrey Reich-Loy, Director of Primary Care Clinic Operations, said about the training, “The team came away with a much better understanding of one another, and seemed to really see the strengths our team possesses, along with some key conversations on how we can work better together through challenges and discord.”
